How To Know If Your Tires Need Replacing

Have you ever replaced your tires? What is the current condition of your tires? If you’re unsure whether you need new tires or not, read over these five tell-tale signs.

Weathering

Intense weather conditions can be detrimental to your tires, including major heat waves, which is something us Mississippians know well. To find signs of weathering, look for small, thin cracks in between the tread blocks and in the sidewall. If you drive with weathered down tires, you can put your vehicle and, most importantly, your safety at risk.

Bulging

Have you recently hit a curb or driven over a pothole? No one likes to hear that sound! Often, those little hiccups add bulges to your tires. This happens because air gets between the inner and outer layers of the tire of weakened areas. If you do notice any bulges, bring your vehicle to us! Vibrating

If you hear a vibrating noise coming from your tires, that can mean several different things. It can be that the belts have shifted or separated, it’s not balanced out, or the tire has lost its round shape. No matter what, this is a sign that it’s time to replace one or more of your tires.

Tread Depth

Another way to check if your tires are at the end of their lifespan is by measuring the tread. A tread depth gauge is the best tool for this. But if you don’t have one, the penny test will tell you what you need to know.

Age

Another good question to ask is how old the tires are. On average, drivers can have their tires last five to six years. At the 10-year mark, tires most definitely need to be replaced. If you don’t know the age of your tires, look at their sidewall! Most tires will have a stamp with their manufacture date.
